Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders

The Junior Selectman Program is more than just a learning opportunity — it’s a way to inspire our youth, build stronger connections between residents and leadership, and ensure that Rindge’s future is shaped by those who will one day inherit it. 

Junior Selectman Program Explained

What is the Junior Selectman Program?

The Junior Selectman Program is an educational initiative designed to engage high school students in local government and civic leadership.


The program offers students a hands-on opportunity to learn how town government works while developing leadership skills, critical thinking, and public speaking.


Participants will serve as student representatives, gaining real-world experience in governance.

Why Create a Junior Selectman Program?

Encourages Civic Engagement – Helps young people understand how local government impacts their lives and their community.

Builds Leadership Skills – Develops public speaking, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities.

Strengthens Community Ties – Encourages students to take pride in their town and contribute to its success.

Prepares Future Leaders – Inspires students to pursue future roles in town governance, volunteerism, or community service. 

Program Structure - How Does the Program Work?

Eligibility: Open to high school juniors and seniors who live in Rindge or attend school within the district.


Application Process: Students will submit a short application and participate in an interview to demonstrate interest in public service.


Selection: Up to two Junior Selectmen will be chosen per year.


Term: Each Junior Selectman will serve a one-year term.

Roles & Responsibilities - What Do Junior Selectmen Do?

Attend Board of Selectmen Meetings (non-voting participants)

Provide a youth perspective on town issues

Participate in discussions and offer insights on matters that impact Rindge’s youth and families

Work with town officials on special projects and community initiatives

Assist in organizing youth-focused events and volunteer programs

Serve as ambassadors between students and local government 

Educational Components - Learning Through Experience

The program is designed to provide students with:

Civic Education: Learning about New Hampshire’s local government structure, municipal law, and town operations.

Leadership Development: Opportunities to lead projects, collaborate with officials, and participate in public discussions.

Public Speaking Skills: Training in communication, presenting ideas, and addressing residents effectively.

Problem Solving: Engaging in discussions about town issues with a focus on practical solutions.
