Senior Resource Hub - Property Tax Relief Programs

1. Elderly Exemption Program


Rindge offers a Property Tax Exemption for Seniors to help reduce the tax burden on eligible elderly residents.


Eligibility Requirements:
-Must be 65 years of age or older.
-Must have resided in New Hampshire for at least 3 consecutive years.
-Must own and occupy the property as their primary residence.
-Income and asset limits apply; specific thresholds are determined annually by the town.


Benefits: Eligible seniors may receive a reduction in their property assessment, reducing their overall tax burden.


How to Apply:

-Obtain an application form from the Town Office.

-Provide required documents, including proof of age, income, and asset statements.

-Submit the completed application to the Town Assessor’s Office by April 15th each year.


2. Tax Deferral Program for Seniors


This program allows eligible seniors to defer a portion of their property taxes to be paid later, typically when the property is sold or inherited.


Eligibility Requirements:
-Must be 65 years of age or older.
-Must have resided in the property for at least 5 consecutive years.
-Must demonstrate financial hardship that makes paying property taxes difficult.


Benefits:

-Provides immediate financial relief for those struggling to pay property taxes.

-Deferred taxes will accrue interest at a low rate as defined by NH state law.


How to Apply:

-Contact the Town Assessor’s Office for an application.

-Provide proof of residency, financial hardship, and supporting documents.


Deadline to Apply: April 15th annually.


3. Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)


This federally-funded program provides assistance with heating and energy costs during the winter months.


Eligibility Requirements:
-Available to low-income households, including seniors on fixed incomes.
-Eligibility is based on household income and size.


How to Apply:

-Contact the Southwestern Community Services at (603) XXX-XXXX.

-Complete an application and provide documentation of household income.


4. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)


SNAP helps eligible seniors afford nutritious food by providing monthly financial assistance for groceries.


Eligibility Requirements:
-Based on income and household size.
-Applicants must be U.S. citizens or meet specific residency criteria.


How to Apply:

-Apply online through NH EASY or visit the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) office.


5. Medicare Savings Program (MSP)


This program helps low-income seniors pay for Medicare premiums, deductibles, and co-pays.


Eligibility Requirements:
-Must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B.
-Income and asset limits apply.


How to Apply:

-Visit NH EASY or contact the ServiceLink Aging & Disability Resource Center at (603) XXX-XXXX.
